Office layers need to handle a cold commute, a warm meeting room and long periods of sitting without constant adjustment. Start with the layer that must remain comfortable all day, then add pieces that can be removed without exposing unfinished proportions or an unsuitable neckline.
Keep the inner layer quiet and functional
A smooth breathable base helps a shirt or knit move freely and reduces visible bulk at the waist. Check seams, straps and fabric transparency under office lighting. The base should solve comfort, not create another decorative decision.
Give jackets and knits enough space. Move the arms forward as if typing and reach for a shelf. A jacket that fits while standing may pull across the back over a thick knit. If sleeves bunch or the collar lifts, exchange one dense layer for two lighter ones or keep the warmest piece for the commute.
Plan the version without the jacket
Remove the outer layer and sit in front of a camera or mirror. The remaining outfit should still have a clear waist, hem and level of formality. Air pieces after work, rotate jackets and follow their labels so perspiration and repeated pressure do not shorten their useful life.
