A skirt sets a strong horizontal line at the waist and another at the hem. Accessories can either connect those lines or break them deliberately. Start by looking at the skirt while walking, because pleats, bias cuts and fuller shapes behave differently in motion than in a mirror.
Choose where the focus belongs
If the skirt has volume, print or visible construction, keep the bag and jewellery compact. With a plain narrow skirt, one sculptural accessory can add character without changing the clean outline. A belt is useful only when the waistband can support it without folding or sliding.
Relate the bag to the hem
A crossbody bag ending at the fullest part of the skirt may interrupt its movement. Shorten the strap, carry the bag by hand or choose a softer shape that moves with the fabric. Check whether hardware scratches delicate satin or catches on an open weave.
Finish with real footwear
Put on the shoes intended for the day before approving the accessories. Heel height, toe shape and boot shaft change the apparent skirt length and may make another focal point unnecessary. Walk, sit and use the pockets. The combination should keep its proportions without needing constant adjustment.
